Nike of Samothrace, 220-190 B.C.E. (Louvre, Paris)

The Louvre has this most superbly displayed, at the end of a hall, rising up from the space where the stairs descend, giving life to the sculpture. Brilliant curatorial decision.

As you approach her in the Louvre, walking towards her, she rises from the space, almost as if in flight. A most remarkable experience.
